What is the meaning of Flash?

The meaning of Flash: Flash is a multimedia technology originally developed by Macromedia, which was later acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005, and it has remained an Adobe product since then. Flash enables web developers to add interactive content, videos and animations to web pages. As a tool for RIAs (Rich Internet Applications), it is often used for creating games and ads. An object-oriented scripting language known as Action-script is used in developing Flash objects.

It manipulates raster and vector graphics to deliver animations of drawings, still images and texts. Flash has the capability to grab user input through a microphone, keyboard, camera and mouse. Moreover, it has support for bidirectional video and audio streaming.

Flash requires the installation of a special plug-in called Adobe Flash Player on a user’s computer system, in order to view its content. Mobile devices are required to install Adobe Flash Lite for the same purpose. Gladly, the plug-ins can freely be downloaded from Adobe’s official website.

Though Flash is now an undisputed web standard that its plug-in is installed by default on many modern web browsers like Google Chrome, some Flash content still need the latest version before they can be viewed or run smoothly.
